This page relates to this website’s approach to web accessibility, the features that have been implemented for helping with improved accessibility, known limitations, and what to do if you encounter any problems using the website.

Our commitment to accessibility

Eldersfield Parish Council is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards when and where we can.

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. With this in mind, users should be able to:

Zoom in or change text size on the web page using browser settings or keyboard shortcuts without content becoming unusable;
Navigate the website using just a keyboard;
Navigate the website using speech recognition software;
Listen to the website using a screen reader.

We have tried to make the website text as simple as possible to understand.

Compliance status

Our aim is that this website should be compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2. We target Level AAA standards (which are the highest level) where possible.

We frequently test this website using online validation tools to maintain high accessibility standards. While we strive for maximum accessibility, we acknowledge that there are some areas that could be improved.

Content that is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations:

PDFs and other documents

Some of our older PDFs and Word documents may not meet accessibility standards – for example, they may not be structured to be accessible to a screen reader.

Please note that the Accessibility Regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they are not essential to providing our services.

We are working to ensure any new PDFs or Word documents we publish meet accessibility standards. We are also considering a transition to more accessible PDF formats for our documents moving forward.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We are committed to continually improving the accessibility of our website. Our efforts include:

Frequent testing with online accessibility validation tools;
Following best practices in web development for accessibility;
Ensuring new content meets high accessibility standards.
Working with our IT partner to implement accessibility improvements

Accessibility features

Our website includes a number of features to support accessibility:

Proper heading structure for screen reader navigation
Descriptive alt text for images
High contrast text that meets WCAG color contrast requirements
A “Skip to main content” link for keyboard users, screen readers and people with motor disabilities

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘Accessibility Regulations’). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
